Madelyn Gerth
Hi there! I'm Maddie,
I'm a second-semester Fordham senior eager to dive into internship and full-time opportunities in the publishing and media industries.

My time at The Fordham Ram newspaper sparked my ambition to turn a lifelong love of learning, reading, and creativity into a career in the publishing book-making process—from manuscript to print.

I bring communication, critical thinking, initiative, and strong organizational and copyediting skills to any team, no matter the size. I’m ready to contribute my talents to a mission-driven team and grow alongside it.

About Me:
I’m a lover of books, journaling, and spontaneous travel plans, always chasing stories in one form or another. My passion for ethical research has led to a published article currently under review, and I care deeply about equality, social justice, and the environment. One of my most rewarding experiences was working at The Ram, my school’s publication, where I honed my editorial skills and helped bring important stories to light. I’m always up for a deep dive into a TED Talk rabbit hole, always learning, questioning, and writing. As I prepare to graduate in May 2025, I’m exploring post-grad opportunities that allow me to merge my passions with meaningful work. At the heart of it all, I’m driven by a desire to connect people with the histories and stories that shape us.

Ethics Research
The entirety of my senior year was spent researching the ethics behind digital surveillance. Over the summer of 2024, I authored 5 case studies analyzing current surveillance technologies such as Snapchat and the Oura Ring. The start of my senior year came with the opportunity to research and co-author an article focusing specifically on the parental monitoring of college students via tracking apps. In collaboration with Matthias Klang, we are within reach of publishing our work.

Editorial Work

It was the start of 2024 when I joined Fordham's student news publication. I immediately clicked with peers and officially joined the community as an Executive Copy Editor. Within a month, I was promoted to Assistant Copy Chief, who worked closely with the Copy Chief, Production Editor, and copy team.
